Savitha Raman BDS, MSc, MJDF, MImp Dent RCS(Edin)

Director and Dentist –

Savitha graduated from SRMC university, Chennai, India in 2003 and started working in Cessnock, Glasgow in 2005.She relocated to Edinburgh in 2006 and worked in both NHS and private practices in and around Edinburgh until 2018 when she took over as a Principal Dentist of East Calder Smile Centre. Savitha is an experienced dentist with a relaxed, gentle and reassuring manner. She is preferred by a lot of patients because of her gentle nature and she is extremely good with nervous patients and kids.

Savitha introduced Oral Surgery to the Practice in 2020 and has since been on many Implant courses around the world including a hands-on course in Brazil and a Master’s degree in Greece.

Savitha also likes to keep up with the latest technology to help benefit our patients, she now offers Laser treatment and Concentrated Growth Factors (CGF) so please see our services page to see how these treatments may benefit you.

Savitha is a busy parent with 2 kids and enjoys spending time with family. Her hobbies are cycling, walking, watching movies and loves travelling and exploring different cultures

Harleen Gobindpuri DDM.

Harleen is a dedicated and compassionate dentist with a strong focus in preventive and minimally invasive dentistry. She graduated from the Medical University of Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2022. Harleen joined the team at East Calder Smile Centre in 2023, where she strives to provide exceptional care with an emphasis on patient comfort and long-term oral health. Harleen is committed to ongoing professional development and is currently undertaking a year-long course in Biomimetic Dentistry which will aid her to deliver treatments that preserve the natural structure of teeth, promoting optimal dental health through evidence-based approaches. Harleen’s philosophy towards dentistry is rooted in patient education, prevention, and personalized care, helping her patients achieve and maintain healthy, beautiful smiles. Harleen also offers Smilers clear aligner for a confident and discreet orthodontic solution. In her spare time, Harleen enjoys travelling to new places and exploring diverse cuisines.

Sahifa Ansari BDS

Dentist – GDC 277128

Sahifa graduated from Yenepoya Dental College and Hospital in 2008 from Mangalore, India. Sahifa worked in Acharya Shree Bhikshu Government Hospital, Delhi, India before moving to the UK in 2014 with her family. She has a special interest in Restorative Dentistry. Sahifa is a dedicated, friendly and comforting dental professional with a pleasant attitude and genuine interest in the wellness of patients. She completed her Licensure examinations for the UK and was registered with GDC in 2018. Sahifa moved to Edinburgh and joined us here at East Calder Smile Centre in 2022, where she practices various dental procedures with keen interest and dedication. Outside of her professional life, Sahifa finds joy in spending quality time with her young family and indulging in her passion for cooking.

Athira James BDS

Dentist – GDC 304779

Dr. Athira completed her dental degree at Dr. M.G.R Medical University, Tamil Nādu, India, in 2014. Following her graduation, she gained valuable clinical experience working at a private dental practice in Thrissur, Kerala, from 2014 to 2018. In 2018, she relocated to the UK with her family and successfully completed the licensure examinations required to practice dentistry in the UK. She became a registered member of the General Dental Council (GDC) in 2022. In 2023, Dr. Athira joined the dental team at East Calder Smile Centre, where she continues to demonstrate a strong passion and commitment to patient care. She has a particular interest in restorative dentistry and is skilled in procedures such as fillings, root canal treatments (RCT),dentures, and crowns. Beyond her professional commitments, Dr. Athira enjoys spending quality time with her family.

Ignacio Verdejo Vila (Nacho)

Cosmetic Dentist

He studied dentistry in Valencia, Spain, where He completed his degree in 2009. He has been working in Scotland since 2011. He moved to Scotland after completing the 1 year course “Introduction to implant dentistry with Biomet 3i, in Valencia(Spain). After this he knew he wanted to learn and get more training in implants and restorative dentistry. So he decided to start a 2 years master degree on implantology and biomaterials at the university Paul Sabatier of Toulouse, France.(2013) After completing this post-grade with honors.

Safinaz Othman Ahmed

Dentist – GDC 312437

Dr. Safinaz graduated from Ain Shams University in Egypt in 2014, beginning her career in dentistry with a strong foundation in restorative procedures. Between 2014 and 2019, she practiced at various dental clinics across Egypt, gaining extensive experience in crowns, oral surgery, emergency dental care, laser whitening, and pedodontics.

Driven by a passion for excellence and continuous learning, she pursued a master’s degree in Endodontics from 2019 to 2023, deepening her expertise in root canal treatments and complex restorative work.

In 2024, Dr. Safinaz relocated to the United Kingdom with her family and joined the team at East Calder Smile Centre. She quickly became a valued member of the practice, known for her precision, compassionate care, and commitment to providing a wide range of high-quality dental services—including fillings, RCTs, dentures, crowns, and veneers.

Outside of work, she cherishes time spent with her family and enjoys winding down with a good movie.
